Oklahoma Sooners

Projected Seed: 10

At 18-11, Oklahoma is safely in the NCAA tournament. Despite a steep drop-off from their non-conference performance, the Sooners are easily an NCAA tournament team, and have nothing to worry about besides their seeding in two weeks.

Oklahoma has a good deal of quality wins, but a bad loss against West Virginia will hurt them on Selection Sunday. Oklahoma is amazingly in better position this year than they were on selection Sunday as a 10 seed last year, but I still expect Oklahoma’s seeding to be somewhat similar.

The committee is going to look at quality wins, which the Sooners have. They’ve managed to stay consistent throughout the season despite a short rough stretch, and other than the West Virginia loss, have performed well against the teams that they are expected to beat.

But with double-digit losses, and no major win other than their win against Texas Tech, Oklahoma will have a tough time getting a single digit seed. Some teams with double-digit losses are able to compensate with a group of outstanding wins, but Oklahoma has only good wins. The Sooners really lack a stellar resume, but their resume is by no means horrible. Oklahoma should fall somewhere in between.

If Oklahoma can win a couple more games, they can probably peak at an eight seed. But I highly doubt that Oklahoma will run the table in the next two weeks, rather I think they’ll go 1-2, and thus be a ten seed in the tournament.
