Big East Conference

Lead-pipe lock: Villanova, Marquette

Firmly in the field: None.

Some perspiration: None.

Double the deodorant: St. John’s, Seton Hall, Creighton.

Probably needs to make the BET final: Butler, Georgetown, Xavier.

St. John’s Red Storm (20-10, 8-9 BE)

Q1: 5-4 | Q2: 5-3 | Q3: 2-3 | Q4: 8-0

Are we sure that St. John’s wants to make the NCAA Tournament? I know that I have asked this question on multiple occasions so far this season but it just keeps coming up. The Red Storm have dropped both of their last two games to non-NCAAT teams (Xavier and DePaul) and they have fallen right back near the cutline. Considering Chris Mullin’s squad is not rated very highly by any metric, they are entering the danger zone on the bubble. This is especially true when you consider their regular-season finale comes on the road against a team that already beat them this year in Xavier. Will the Red Storm be able to snag that win to garner some margin for error heading into the Big East Tournament? Current Bracketology Status: No. 11 seed (Last Four Byes).

Seton Hall Pirates (17-12, 8-9 BE)

Q1: 5-6 | Q2: 5-4 | Q3: 3-2 | Q4: 4-0

After dropping three consecutive games, Seton Hall fell out of my NCAA Tournament field. Then, though, they put together a great performance at home this past week to take down Marquette. With arguably the most clutch guard in the entire country leading the way (Myles Powell), the Pirates can be extremely dangerous when on their game. With that said, though, this team is still sitting right on the Big Dance bubble. Head coach Kevin Willard’s team will finish the regular season with Villanova at home and a win could solidify their position in most projected fields. A loss, though, would likely put them out with work to do to get in. Current Bracketology Status: No. 11 seed (Last Four Byes).

Creighton Bluejays (17-13, 8-9 BE)

NET: 54 | KPI: 41 | SOR: 59 | BPI: 44 | KP: 49 | Sag: 46

Q1: 2-10 | Q2: 6-3 | Q3: 5-0 | Q4: 3-0

Bracketologists mostly wrote Creighton off as a potential NCAA Tournament team when they lost four games in a row and fell to 4-9 in the Big East earlier in the year. Now, though, the Bluejays have won four consecutive games and find themselves right around the Big Dance cutline. Additionally, they have a favorable closing matchup with DePaul coming to play in Omaha. This team is playing some of its best basketball right now and they are not only a threat for an at-large bid but also the BET title. Their resume, though, is still far from stellar given their terrible record in Q1 games. Current Bracketology Status: No. 12 seed (Last Four In).
