Iowa Hawkeyes

Last year, Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery added an instant-contributor in Joe Wieskamp. He has played big minutes as a freshman. This upcoming class, McCaffery might have himself another wing player that could play right away: Pat McCaffery. As many could have guessed by the name, Pat McCaffery is indeed the son of Fran, but he’s not just there as a result of that connection.

Pat has quite the shooting touch and is ranked in the top 100 by 247Sports composite. 247 also lists him as a top five recruit in program history. That’s not to say that Iowa would desperately need him to contribute right away though, as Iowa only loses senior forward Nicholas Baer.

Fran McCaffery did a nice job by also adding point guard Joe Toussaint. The Hawkeyes did not take a pure point guard in the last two classes prior to the 2019 class, so it was crucial for them to land one this time around and address that developing need. This pick-up probably means that the Hawkeyes are done for this cycle though, as landing Toussaint probably took former PG target Bryan Greenlee off the table.

Overall, the class fills out the roster nicely as SF Pat McCaffery replaces SF Nick Baer and a much-needed freshman PG in Toussaint joins the Hawkeyes as well. Iowa should be very competitive next year with all their returning talent, along with these nice new additions to mix into the fold.
