Seton Hall Pirates

Not only have the Pirates been one of the biggest winners of Championship Week, I’d argue that they’ve been the biggest winner overall in the month of March. The team was in the midst of a three-game losing streak and by all accounts were on the wrong side of the bubble, having a ton of work to do.

But there were opportunities available and Seton Hall took complete advantage. They finished the regular season with back-to-back wins over Marquette and Villanova to grab the third seed in the Big East Tournament. From there they dispatched Georgetown easily before meeting the Golden Eagles again. In a tight and controversial game, the Pirates survived with a two-point victory and effectively cashed their ticket to the Big Dance. 40 combined points from Myles Powell and Quincy McKnight was just enough for the team to get the win.

Seton Hall is now a projected nine seed with quality wins over Villanova, Kentucky, Maryland and now the Golden Eagles twice. That helps getting swept by DePaul (who’s better than their record says) in the regular season. Now considered safe for Selection Sunday, the Big East now knows who their third representative will be for the NCAA Tournament.
