March Madness: Top 10 mid-major players in the 2019 NCAA Tournament
By Logan Butts
Sam Merrill – Utah State
The Mountain West was thought to be Nevada’s and Nevada’s alone this season, but Sam Merrill and the Utah State Aggies had other ideas. They earned a share of the regular season title, the conference tournament title, and Merrill won the player of the Year.
The junior guard does it all for the Aggies, with a per game line of 21.2-4.0-4.2-1.1 steals. Could Merrill lead Utah State to a win over Washington and then North Carolina in the Midwest Region?
Miye Oni – Yale
Oni is looking to become the first player drafted out of the Ivy League since Jerome Allen in 1995. The Ivy League Player of the Year has shot up draft boards recently thanks to his size, athleticism, defensive prowess, and all-around skillset (17.6-6.4-3.6-1.3 blocks).
Yale will be a trendy upset pick against LSU, especially with all of the controversy surrounding the Tigers, and Oni will be a major reason why.
