Midwest Pod D – Jacksonville, FL

(7) Wofford vs. (10) Seton Hall

I wish that this wasn’t a first-round matchup. Both of these teams are playing very good basketball right now and it will be hard to see one of them go this early in the event. Alas, that is how the tournament works sometimes. On the whole, I think that these two teams are relatively evenly matched and both teams boast a superstar guard with Fletcher Magee (Wofford) and Myles Powell (Seton Hall). The difference, though, could be in the rebounding game. The Terriers are much better on both ends of the floor when it comes to dominating the glass and they could use that advantage to take the victory. Watch out for Wofford’s Cameron Jackson to post a big game. Prediction: Wofford.

(2) Kentucky vs. (15) Abilene Christian

Kentucky, despite falling to Tennessee in the SEC Tournament, is still one of the nation’s top teams. They are ranked in the top-15 in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency and will not fall in the first round. Unlike some teams in the past, this version of the ‘Cats is experienced and can win in a variety of ways. They can score from distance, attack the basket, or simply win by creating transition opportunities using their defense. This is a championship-caliber team and everyone knows it.
