3. Tremont Waters, the next Kemba?

There are plenty of talented guards in the NCAA tournament this year that can have a monster tournament to carry their team far. Ja Morant, Markus Howard, Cassius Winston and Carsen Edwards are some of the names that come to mind, but people seem to be forgetting about Tremont Waters.

Waters had a terrific season for the Tigers averaging 15.1 points per game and 5.7 assists. The 5’11 guard has a knack for hitting some tough shots, similar to Kemba Walker or Shabazz Napier. He was named to the First Team All-SEC as well as SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Waters is terrific but his backcourt running mates aren’t too shabby themselves. Skylar Mays averages 13.4 points per game and has the size and athleticism to pair with Waters nicely. Also keep an eye on freshman guard Javonte Smart. He is averaging 18.6 points per game over their last five and is another piece in that electric backcourt that makes them so hard to stop.

Yale is a solid team that has had a great season and without Will Wade on the sidelines, nothing is certain for LSU. But, the matchups appear to be in LSU’s favor, which is why I believe they are a safe pick to advance.
