NCAA Tournament: Biggest storylines for mid-major programs
3. Can the Wolf Pack make another run in the Big Dance?
The Nevada Wolf Pack are back in the NCAA Tournament this season as a No. 7 seed. Head coach Eric Musselman and company lost in the Sweet 16 last season to Loyola-Chicago and this season they’re back with a much deeper squad.
The Martin twins, Caleb and Cody, are back as is Jordan Caroline and they aren’t the only seniors that can do damage. Tre’Shawn Thurman and Trey Porter have made an impact in the frontcourt as starters as well. After last year’s ride in the NCAA Tournament, they should be primed for another run.
As seasoned veterans, the Wolf Pack have already taken their fair share of losses during the regular season. They finished 15-3 in the MWC standings and took home the regular season title but they lost in the conference tournament to the San Diego State Aztecs.
It will be interesting to see how they fare this season in “win or go home” territory. In the first round, they’ll face the Florida Gators, a team that’s lost four of their last six contests coming in. If they can get past them, another deep run could be on the horizon.
