Seven Seed: Wofford

The Wofford Terriers are for real. Their only four losses are against NCAA Tournament teams including North Carolina and Kansas. They also went undefeated throughout the Southern Conference which was very good this season, especially in the top four teams.

People will question how much their performance in their conference really means, but they did beat a really good UNC Greensboro team three times. If UNCG would’ve beaten them at least one time or if Oregon would’ve lost to Washington, then they would be in Dayton playing in the First Four.

The way they shoot the basketball is very tough as they shoot 41.6% which is the second highest mark in all of college basketball. It’s not like they’re not shooting it a lot either though as their 874 three-point attempts is the fourth most in the country.

One of the guys behind their three-point shooting success is Fletcher Magee. He shoots10.7 three-pointers per game at a 43% clip. He isn’t the only good shooter on this team as Nathon Hoover and Storm Murphy are capable of knocking down multiple three-point shots in a game.

They do have a very tough path to even reach the second weekend though. Before they even set up a second-round matchup with the Kentucky Wildcats they need to get past the 10th seeded Seton Hall Pirates. When you take into account how dangerous Myles Powell is and how they’ve been battle-tested in the physical Big East, it isn’t a great matchup for the Terriers.

Assuming they get past that game they most likely get set for the matchup with Kentucky. That will be very tough before we even mention possible matchups with North Carolina and Houston. This is a very tough region so I think the Terriers may need some chaos to ensure if they’re going to reach Minneapolis.

That is what generally happens during Cinderella runs tough. If they can pull off an upset over Kentucky then expect them to use that confidence to their advantage heading into Kansas City. The Nevada Wolfpack is a seven seed to watch as well, they have a lot of talent, but they have struggled recently, but also don’t be shocked if they were to make a deep NCAA Tournament run.
