2. Knock Down 3-Point Shots

This Iowa State team has been extremely inconsistent shooting the basketball. There have been some extremely impressive performances, as well as some terrible performances that they would rather forget. They have had many games where they won because they shot over 50% from three-point range, including wins over Baylor, Kansas, and Kansas State. That isn’t needed but a good goal for them would be to knock down 10 3-pointers. On average, they make about eight and a half three’s per game.

They have the guys who are more than capable of knocking down multiple three-pointers. Marial Shayok averages more than two a game himself while other guys such as Lindell Wigginton and Talen Horton-Tucker have shown how dangerous they can be from three-point range. They’re all capable of getting going, but they need it to be a full team effort. When they have struggled at times this season, they often have been too reliant on just one or two guys on the offensive end of the floor.

This is a team that is very reliant on their three-point shooting but they do still have guys who can have success inside. They have a talented big man in Michael Jacobson whom they certainly need to get going early and often. In the NCAA Tournament, so often you see teams go on deep runs riding their hot 3-point shooting. This Iowa State team has the pieces to make that happen and it all starts Friday night against Ohio State.
