March Madness: 10 breakout player candidates in 2019 NCAA Tournament
9. Talen Horton-Tucker, Forward, Iowa State
The six seed Iowa State Cyclones are a very good bet to make it far in the NCAA Tournament for a lower seeded team, especially coming off of a Big 12 Tournament Championship.
While veterans such as Lindell Wigginton and Marial Shayok have been big in making the Cyclones such a great success this season, the Cyclones will need to get production from more than just those two in order to fulfill their cinderella potential.
A viable candidate to aid them in just that is Talen Horton-Tucker.
Horton-Tucker was a highly-touted four star recruit from Chicago, and had a good freshman season, rising up draft big boards due to his premier production for the Cyclones.
However, in a conference with big-name upperclassmen, a star underclassmen in Horton-Tucker flew under the radar for most of the season.
No problem for him, as Horton-Tucker has been putting up big numbers all season for the Cyclones. He isn’t a household name, but Talen Horton-Tucker is a safe bet to produce in big games, as he has all freshman season.
Against a deep 11 seed Ohio State squad, the Cyclones will need production from role areas, such as the role that Horton-Tucker will be playing in.
Horton-Tucker has produced all season long, and Iowa State will need him to continue that, even if he isn’t the first, second, or third scoring option throughout the tournament.
He has the pedigree and potential, and given the opportunity, Talen Horton-Tucker is a great breakout candidate.
