March Madness: Top 100 players in the 2019 NCAA Tournament
10. Luke Maye – North Carolina
2018-19 stats: 14.7 ppg 10.5 rpg 2.4 apg
Due to Cam Johnson and the freshmen playing well, Maye’s offense wasn’t needed as much this season. But he still had some great games including going for 31 points and 12 rebounds against NC State and more notably 30 and 15 in the win at Duke. The senior still was dominant on the boards and has the veteran leadership to potentially lead the Tar Heels all the way.
9. RJ Barrett – Duke
2018-19 stats: 22.9 ppg 7.5 rpg 4.1 apg
The lead scorer on the No. 1 overall seed in the Big Dance, Barrett has been as good as advertised. When Zion was out, the freshman guard performed great and has had some huge performances this season. Barrett’s a volume shooter for sure, ranking in the top-15 nationally in shot attempts. But he made plenty of them, having not scored less than 13 points in any game.
8. Carsen Edwards – Purdue
2018-19 stats: 23.0 ppg 3.5 rpg 3.0 apg
After losing a ton of production, Edwards made up for a lot of it to lead Purdue to the Big Ten Regular season title. He’s capable of taking over any game he plays, including 36 against Wisconsin and a career-high 40 points versus Texas. However, the high volume shooter can have bad games like the 4-24 performance against Indiana. Still, there aren’t many scorers that can put the ball in the hole like Edwards.
7. Jarrett Culver – Texas Tech
2018-19 stats: 18.5 ppg 6.3 rpg 3.6 apg
After a really good freshman season, Culver has grown into a national star at Texas Tech, winning Big 12 Player of the Year after leading the team to a co-conference regular season crown. The 6’5 guard is one of the best defenders in the country and scored at least 12 points in every game but one. Culver is coming off a career-high 31 points against Iowa State and is riding great individual momentum for the Red Raiders.
6. Brandon Clarke – Gonzaga
2018-19 stats: 16.5 ppg 8.4 rpg 1.8 apg
While Hachimura is getting the awards and accolades, Clarke has been the MVP for the team. He led the country in field goal percentage at 70% and blocked three shots a game, shattering the single-season program record. In fact, Clarke has more blocks on the season than missed shots. And don’t forget his offensive ability, reaching double figures in every game his season. His versatility on defense makes him perfect to guard just about anyone in the frontcourt and will be a menace in the Big Dance.
