March Madness: Top 100 players in the 2019 NCAA Tournament
70. Jordan Nwora – Louisville
2018-19 stats: 17.2 ppg 7.5 rpg 1.3 apg
After not getting much run as a freshman, 6’7 forward scored 12 more ppg to lead the Cardinals to a surprising NCAA Tournament bid. He’s can produce in bunches, including 23 and 12 against Duke and a career-high 32 points to beat Boston College. The multi-versatile forward is one of the most improved players in the country and is relied upon heavily to provide the scoring punch for Louisville.
69. Matisse Thybulle – Washington
2018-19 stats: 9.3 ppg 3.1 rpg 2.1 apg
Considered to be the best defender in the country by some, the senior guard leads the country in steals per game while ranking second in blocks in the Pac-12. Primarily a three-point shooter, Thybulle isn’t much of an offensive option compared to Nowell. The reason why the senior is ahead of the Pac-12 POY though is due to how important Thybulle’s defense is to the Huskies. Since they run a 2-3 zone, it’s huge to have a wing that can cause havoc, otherwise the zone isn’t effective. Without Thybulle, it wouldn’t matter how much Nowell scores.
68. KeVaughn Allen – Florida
2018-19 stats: 12.0 ppg 2.8 rpg 2.1 apg
A double-digit scorer all four years of his Gator career, Allen was tasked this time to be the top offensive option for the team. For the most part, the senior guard came through on both ends, including going for 21 in the win at LSU.
67. Anthony Cowan – Maryland
2018-19 stats: 16.0 ppg 3.7 rpg 4.3 apg
While Cassius Winston and Carsen Edwards get all of the attention as Big Ten perimeter players, Cowan has quietly played some of his best ball this season. Absent of a few games in the middle of the season, Cowan is a double-digit scorer with the ability to get to the free throw line. He had four straight games of 20+ points and can get hot from deep. As long as he cuts down on the turnovers, the Terrapins are in good hands.
66. Terance Mann – Florida State
2018-19 stats: 11.2 ppg 6.4 rpg 2.5 apg
Even though there are bigger teammates on the roster, Mann leads the Seminoles in rebounds and has become a threat from long distance. Although a bit inconsistent, the senior guard can have a big scoring night, going for 20+ points five different times. If Florida State is going to make a run, the senior will play a big part of it.
65. Talen Horton-Tucker – Iowa State
2018-19 stats: 12.1 ppg 5.0 rpg 2.4 apg
A pair of 26-point games early in the season set the tone for how good this freshman guard would be. He may not have reached that mark afterwards but the Cyclones have greatly benefitted from the 6’4 playmaker. If he can spread the floor from long distance, Iowa State goes up a level in the Big Dance.
64. D’Marcus Simonds – Georgia State
2018-19 stats: 18.4 ppg 5.0 rpg 3.7 apg
The former Sun Belt Player of the Year had a slight dip as teams focused on him more but Simonds still put up gaudy numbers as a junior. He had 30 points in a win over fellow NCAA Tournament team Montana and is a solid rebounder and passer as well. Simonds had 24 points last year in a loss to Cincinnati and looks to have a different result this time around.
63. Charles Matthews – Michigan
2018-19 stats: 12.0 ppg 4.8 rpg 1.5 apg
After a strong start to the season, the junior tailed off during the ladder part of the Big Ten campaign. But the reputation remains for the former Kentucky guard who had 19 points in a win over Villanova, along with 21 to beat North Carolina. Those were arguably the top wins for the Wolverines this season, with his struggles against Wisconsin and Michigan State resulting in losses. Matthews remains an elite defender one a team with Final Four hopes.
62. Terence Davis – Ole Miss
2018-19 stats: 15.1 ppg 5.8 rpg 3.4 apg
A big senior year by Davis helped propel the Rebels to the NCAA Tournament unexpectedly this season. He has several 20+ point games, including going for 30 at Butler in the beginning of the season. When Davis goes off, he goes off, with three different games of at least 25 points and 10 rebounds.
61. Kerry Blackshear Jr.
2018-19 stats: 14.3 ppg 7.4 rpg 2.3 apg
An already good player, the junior forward increased his production after starting point guard Justin Robinson was hurt. Blackshear had four straight games of at least 22 points and nine rebounds, including going for 23 and 10 in the upset win over Duke. An athletic player who can stretch the floor a well, look for Blackshear to create some mismatches in the frontcourt.
