Syracuse Orange
Now we reach our final 8-seed, the representatives from the West Regional and the ACC, the Syracuse Orange. The Orange are coming off of a nice showing against Duke in the ACC Tournament, and are the only team that has beaten Duke that is not seeded within the top four seeds of any region. Even though they have lost a lot recently, Syracuse has proven themselves to be threats to any team in the nation and are always the best bet for any high seed to go far in the tournament(such as last year making the Sweet Sixteen as an 11-seed and 2016 making the Final Four as a 10-seed).
They will be facing the Baylor Bears from the Big 12 who happens to be on a four game losing streak. If Syracuse can get a good game out of Tyrus Battle, who led the team past Duke with 32 points, then they should able to beat Baylor with not much problems.
Gonzaga will then be the team to beat to get into the Sweet Sixteen. They are coming off of a rare conference-loss, this time in the WCC Tournament Finals to Saint Mary’s, which made some people surprised that they got a 1-seed due to that loss. Gonzaga is the least picked 1-seed past the first round and they have been eliminated in the Round of 32 as a 1-seed before. That combined with Syracuse’s unlikely runs makes Syracuse a contender for a spot in this year’s Final Four.
