Iowa State’s Season Ends In Disappointment
The Iowa State Cyclones up and down season came to a very disappointing end with their 59-62 loss against Ohio State. They didn’t play well on either end of the floor and they weren’t able to overcome it down the stretch. They had opportunities to complete the comeback down the stretch, but they weren’t able to capitalize.
The Cyclones picked a terrible day to shoot the ball this poorly as they had terrible performances from multiple key players. Senior guard Nick Weiler-Babb had a great college career, but he did not end it on a good note. He finished with just four points on 1-8 shooting and missed the game-tying three-point attempt in the final seconds. He did still make a positive impact in other areas, but they needed him scoring the basketball.
This Ohio State team is so reliant on Kaleb Wesson and the Cyclones had absolutely no answer for him. He was dominant in this game as he finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. He did a little bit of everything for this team and it was exactly what they needed. Five of his 12 rebounds came on the offensive end which proved to be a determining factor.
Iowa State simply didn’t have anybody who was big enough to guard him down low. Cam Lard was giving it his all. but his thin frame was no match for Wesson. They were able to contain him at times, but when he got the ball on the low block he looked a grown man amongst boys.
This was an Iowa State team that didn’t have extremely high expectations coming into the season, but as the season went along we saw how good they could be. While we did see all the talent they had, we also saw how inconsistent they were at times. It was a tough way for the season to end, but they just weren’t good enough. They had opportunities late in the game to steal this win, but with the way, they played they didn’t deserve to come out on top.
