The Dawkins Family

UCF and Duke played the game of the tournament so far on Sunday afternoon. Big (literally and figuratively) players made big plays, there was last-second drama, and a gigantic upset was on the line.

Although the Knights didn’t pull off the upset, father and son duo Johnny and Aubrey Dawkins can only hold their heads high.

In a matchup with the elder Dawkins’ mentor and former team, the younger Dawkins was arguably the best player on the court. Aubrey finished with 32 points (on 12-18 from the field and 5-7 from three!), three rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a painfully close almost game winner.

Tacko Fall held his own until he fouled out and B.J. Taylor made some big shots, but Aubrey carried the team. Johnny has this program in the best shape they have ever been in.

And as for Duke, they survived the potential ironic and karmic loss to the Dawkins duo due some Zion heroics down the stretch. The freshman sensation finished with 32-11-4-1. However, the bench scored three total points. They’ll need more than that to take down Virginia Tech.
