NCAA Basketball Recruiting: McDonald’s All-American Game takeaways
How did the uncommitted players perform?
Cole Anthony (No. 4): I already touched on this one but Anthony was certainly tremendous. He was not the leading scorer on his own team but was a major reason for his team’s success. He spread the wealth offensively and allowed many of the other superstars on his roster to showcase their skills. His unselfishness was on full display on this matchup and he will make any team happy. North Carolina is the team trending most in Crystal Ball predictions.
Jaden McDaniels (No. 5): Another top-five recruit, Jaden McDaniels did not make a major impact in the All-American game. He played 15 minutes in the contest and posted seven points (3-for-4 FG), two rebounds, and two assists. Even though he wasn’t spectacular in this game, his potential is off the charts. McDaniels boasts great size and a very smooth shooting stroke. He does not yet have a timeline for making his college decision but has narrowed his list to just five: Texas, Kentucky, UCLA, San Diego State, and Washington.
Matthew Hurt (No. 8): Hurt was relatively effective in this matchup but he did not exactly jump off the television screen. In 16 minutes of play, he chipped in eight points (4-for-7 FG) and also recorded five rebounds. He did not dish out an assist but also did not turn the ball over. Hurt is an extremely sought-after recruit; his top three schools (according to Crystal Ball predictions) are Duke, Kansas, and Kentucky. He will be making his college decision on April 19th.
Precious Achiuwa (No. 13): I’m not sure anyone raised their uncommitted stock more than Precious Achiuwa. He might not have won MVP but he was the leading scorer in the game while dropping in 22 points on 10-for-20 shooting from the floor. He definitely took the most shots in the game but shooting 50% from the floor is rarely a bad thing. He also chipped in nine rebounds. With regards to his recruitment, Achiuwa is yet to trim his list but plans on making a decision in late May.
Trendon Watford (No. 27): One of the more well-rounded performers in the McDAAG, Watford posted a strong game in several facets. He really stuffed the stat sheet en route to recording 10 points (4-for-6 FG), seven rebounds, and four assists to go with a steal and a block. Watford played 18 minutes in the game and flashed many reasons why he is rated so highly. He is reportedly down to five schools (Memphis, Indiana, Alabama, LSU, and Duke) and will make his decision at Jordan Brand.
