NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Looking ahead to the top 2020 prospects
Jalen Green – Fresno, CA
SG | 6-foot-5 | 170 lbs | No. 2 overall
An elite athlete with very few holes in his game, Jalen Green is an all-around stud. At 6-foot-5 with an endless bag of offensive tricks up his sleeve, it is easy to see why he is ranked so high in the class. As of right now, the biggest concern regarding Green is that he might not have one “signature skill”. He can do just about everything well but he is not particularly elite in any one thing. This makes his very dangerous to guard but it will be interesting to see how that translates to the NBA in a couple of years because he will surely dominate at the collegiate level.
He is extremely well-rounded on the whole and will be one of the most athletic players in the country. Green projects as a strong two-way shooting guard but he could bring a little extra secondary playmaking to the table if he is going to maximize his potential. He already finishes incredibly well around the rim and he does so both with creativity and power as he has the finesse needed to work around bigger defenders and the leaping ability to play above the rim as well.
In 11 contests on the Adidas Gauntlet, Green performed admirably. He averaged 18.7 points (.423/.279/.760), 4.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game as he flashed his all-around attributes. Green did not post a single game in which he did not score in double-figures during that stretch so his consistency was also on display. With his fluidity and lack of holes in his game, Green is one of the most sought-after recruits in the nation for good reason.
