Recruits already committed for the 2019 class

Coach K is one of the best recruiters in the nation and therefore it is reasonable to expect that he is going to bring in one of the best classes in the country. To this point in the year, the Blue Devils have already landed three commitments that should immediately impact the program next season. The class is currently ranked at No. 10 in the nation. And while this class might not be on the same level as the 2018 class, these players will help to make up what will definitely be a preseason top-25 team in the nation.

Vernon Carey – C – No. 3 overall

Headlining this list of current Duke commits is Vernon Carey, one of the most dominant big men in the class. Carey is already well-built and ready for the college game. Although mostly known as a post scorer, Carey has shown the ability to step out and knock down the open 3-pointer as well. He has flashed plenty of versatility on the offensive end and his size makes him very difficult to match up against. Carey is a strong rebounder and also uses his physicality well on the defensive end.

Wendell Moore – SF – No. 22 overall

Wendell Moore will enter the collegiate ranks as one of the best wing defenders in the country. With elite-level athleticism to go with a strong 6-foot-5 frame, Moore has the ability to be extremely versatile on the defensive end of the floor and his offensive game is consistently growing. He can do a little bit of everything offensively, although he does not have one tremendous skill. If he can develop as a 3-point shooter before arriving at Duke, he will be a perfect fit for the modern game.

Boogie Ellis – CG – No. 34 overall

Duke was one of the worst 3-point shooting teams in the nation during this past season but that should not be the case in 2019-20. Coach K should have much more shooting in his rotation next season and Boogie Ellis is a major reason why. An elite perimeter scorer, Ellis can fill it up from distance and should really help the Blue Devils during this coming season. He might be the lowest-rated commit in the class so far but he could be the most important. Ellis will let it fly from distance and he has the potential to be a strong on-ball defender at either guard position as well.
