SEC Basketball: Way-too-early 2019-20 preseason power rankings

6. Alabama Crimson Tide
Some of you think that this might be a bit high for a team that failed to reach the NCAA Tournament this year, but there is a lot that will be different about the 2020 Alabama Crimson Tide.
Firstly, they hired Nate Oats as their new head coach. The former head coach of Buffalo has a great track record of having explosive offenses and good teams in general. They made the NCAA Tournament in three of his four years as their head coach. I know that mid-major success doesn’t always transfer to the Power 6, but Oats is referred to as one of the brightest young minds in college basketball, and he deserves the opportunity.
Also, this team is returning the majority of their talent. Their three biggest departures are Donta Hall, Riley Norris, and Dazon Ingram. Hall and Norris are out of eligibility, and Ingram has entered into the transfer portal along with Daniel Giddens. John Petty and Kira Lewis were also in the portal, but Petty officially rejoined the team and Lewis is now practicing with the Tide, so it’s safe to assume he will return.
Also, the Tide has a great recruiting class coming in. They have three players with four-star ratings highlighted by Juwan Gary and Jaylen Forbes. They are also in the running for Trendon Watford, one of the greatest recruits still on the market. Watford is set to announce his decision this month, and there is a distinct possibility that he wears a Script A on his hat when he decides.
