ACC Basketball: Way-Too-Early preseason power rankings for 2019-20
11. Pittsburgh Panthers
The Pittsburgh Panthers finished 3-15 in the ACC, last in the conference, but don’t expect that to last heading into 2019-20. Xavier Johnson and Trey McGowens had productive seasons in the backcourt and with help on the way in the frontcourt, they should do more damage next season.
Johnson led the team in scoring (15.5 points per game) and assists (4.5 assists per game) and shot 35.2 percent from behind the arc as a freshman. McGowens averaged 11.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.9 steals per contest.
With the No. 32 ranked class, the Panthers won’t be in the bottom of the ACC for long. Two of their three recruits in the 2019 class rank in the Top 150 overall and one is an underrated forward at 6-foot-8.
Head coach Jeff Capel still has room to make more noise with this year’s recruiting class and if he does, look for the Panthers to catapult even more in the next edition of the power rankings.
