NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing favored five for Lester Quinones
Memphis Tigers
Memphis is back on the rise. After suffering through the doldrums of some tough seasons following John Calipari‘s departure for Kentucky, head coach Penny Hardaway has reignited the excitement around the program. Even though he has only been at the helm for one season, his activity on the recruiting trail is certainly worth raving about. At this point in time, Memphis’ 2019 recruiting class is ranked at No. 10 in the nation and they are heavily involved in potentially landing Quinones as well.
In my opinion, the opportunity to play alongside other top prospects, including the No. 1 overall player in James Wiseman, is an enticing part of Memphis’ pitch. This is the best recruiting class of any in his favored five and could be a major reason for his potential decision. In addition, Coach Hardaway and the rest of his staff boasts tremendous NBA pedigree. If Quinones wants to take the next step with his career and play professionally, then the Tigers could be his best bet.
It is also important to mention that Memphis is trending extremely well with regards to Crystal Ball predictions. Each of the last seven unlocked picks has gone in favor of the Tigers. I will say, though, that predictions are not always completely accurate and this trending could change following Quinones’ upcoming visits to Indiana and Michigan.
Final Prediction: Memphis.
Coach Penny has been superb on the recruiting trail since taking over at Memphis. With an elite class already in tow, I would expect that Quinones is enticed to playing alongside those fellow stars. With regards to fit, every team in the nation needs more shooting and he would certainly bring that to the table. Watch out for the Tigers to potentially start in the preseason top-25 if Quinones commits to join the program.
