Anthony Harris

Harris will be the first of the three players on the UNC campus. He previously committed to Buzz Williams at Virginia Tech but decided to reconsider that decision following the coach’s departure to Texas A&M. The 6-foot-4 combo guard, who tore his ACL in December, hosted a meet and greet at Pope Paul VI Catholic High School (Va.) on April 12. According to Evan Daniels of 247Sports, Indiana’s Archie Miller, Georgetown’s Patrick Ewing, Maryland’s Mark Turgeon and Mike Young of Virginia Tech along with Williams were on hand at the event. He even picked up scholarship offers from Indiana and UNC.

The consensus four-star prospect, who possesses above-average athleticism, is a very good ball-handler as well as a solid decision maker and excellent on-ball defender. He thrives a getting to the hoop off the bounce and is a good defensive rebounder. Harris is a little slender and does need to add upper body strength, which would help him to finish through contact. Lateral quickness and vision in the open court is also something he needs to improve.

The Fairfax (Va.) native took an official visit prior to Easter. He is also considering Georgetown, Maryland and Virginia Tech.

Harris is rated as the 78th best player in the class of 2019 by ESPN. Meanwhile, 247Sports Composite has him ranked No. 66 in their rankings and 247Sports has tabbed him at No. 69. In addition, He is ranked 71st in the nation by Rivals.

It is hard to imagine Harris going back to Virginia Tech, so the other four schools appear to have a slight edge in that aspect. Georgetown appears to be looking at several other players while Carolina is a late comer and has also reportedly been in contact with Akron grad transfer Daniel Utomi and former Arkansas-Little Rock guard Rayjon Tucker. So, that essentially leaves Indiana and Maryland as the favorites to land Harris’ services.
