RJ Hampton

RJ Hampton is currently listed as a 2020 recruit, but he has made it known that reclassifying is a possibility. He is still working at getting credits during the summer so we may not know for sure if he’s even eligible to reclassify until we get closer to the season. It’s very possible a decision doesn’t come until August.

Hampton is a very talented guard who would be an absolute difference maker at the college level. It started off with the feeling that Duke was the favorite to land him, but now they’re pretty much out of it since they have picked up other recruits such as Cassius Stanley. He could stay in the 2020 class and go to Duke, but if he reclassifies it seems to be a two-team race.

It is a battle between Kansas and Memphis. Penny Hardaway already has the Tigers turned around and they have a chance to become a national title contender very quickly. They already have the top recruit in the 2019 class with James Wiseman to go with an already very good class so even as things currently stand they could be a top 25 team.

One of the main points of emphasis for Hampton has been for a chance to play with other elite guards. He was very intrigued by the possibility of playing alongside Tre Jones and he also would enjoy playing with Devon Dotson. Hampton would be the starting shooting guard which is an absolute need for Kansas.

Many people including Corey Evans of Rivals view Kansas as the favorite to land Hampton if he were to reclassify. This will be an interesting decision to monitor as he will be one of if not the last prospect to decide where he plays since he has to become eligible first.

Kansas might not be the favorite for any of these five players, but they have to find a way to land at least one of them. With Udoka Azubuike coming back that opens the door for this team to become a national title contender. Expect Bill Self to hit the recruiting trail hard over the next couple of weeks as they look to fill out the rest of the roster.
