3. Iowa State

The Iowa State Cyclones are a program that has had a lot of success with transfers. They were a very talented team during the 2018-19 season, but they never were able to put it all together. They have given their guys a chance to showcase their talents and that could help Gilder as he enters his final college season before he starts his professional career.

The Cyclones lose many key players from a year ago including guys such as Lindell Wigginton and Talen Horton-Tucker so the opportunity for new guys to come in and play a big role right away is there. Their recruiting class is made up of only three-star recruits so it’s unrealistic to expect them to make a big impact right away so they could be looking at the transfer market for key players.

They’ve had many transfers come in and have success headlined by guys such as Marial Shayok and DeAndre Kane. That could be a big selling point for them as they look to bring Gilder on board. Them having an opening at the point guard spot also could make this a very intriguing option.

This program has had 23+ wins in seven out of the past eight seasons under two different head coaches in Steve Prohm and Fred Hoiberg. The only year they didn’t win 23 games was when they went 13-18 during the 2017-18 season.

That track record of success is exciting for a guy like Gilder. If he is going to go somewhere for one season then he wants to be able to compete at the highest level. The Cyclones won’t be a national title contender, but if he were to go to Ames it would give him a chance to shine in the Big 12 Conference, with a chance to play in the NCAA Tournament.
