3. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Chris Beard has put Texas Tech on the map quickly in regards to recruiting. He took them to an Elite Eight in 2018 before becoming the runner-up this past season in an overtime loss against Virginia. His type of success with lower ranked players makes this an exciting option to see what he could do with a player of Hampton’s caliber.

In just three years at the school, he has done an amazing job developing players most notably with Jarrett Culver who is a potential top-five pick after becoming a star during his sophomore season. The success they have had also led to them landing Jahmius Ramsey who is the 32nd ranked player according to 247sports which is the highest ranked recruit in program history.

Hampton has made it known he prefers to play alongside a top guard and while the Red Raiders don’t have elite guards they do have some quality players that would be good to play alongside who were on the team last year. With guys such as Davide Moretti, Kyler Edwards, and Deshawn Corprew set to return they could have one of the best backcourts in the country.

While the past two seasons at Texas Tech are special for that program they are runs that the top programs in the nation are accustomed to. The speed at which Chris Beard has developed this program is why it has received the attention that it has. In just three seasons with the school, he has a record of 76-31 and doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.

With how quickly Chris Beard has become an elite coach in college basketball you can’t count him out in this recruitment. They took Duke’s place on Hampton’s final list of schools which was a surprise. While they aren’t expected to land him, don’t be surprised if they make some noise and get strong consideration.
