Foresight is 2020…

As I already mentioned, Coach Miller has been superb on the recruiting trail since taking over in Bloomington. While the on-court success has not exactly followed suit to this point, the program has to continue landing the prospects needed to consistently succeed at the Big ten level. It is for this reason that one of the priorities this offseason should be landing a few 2020 prospects. Due to the fact that there is already an abundance of young talent on the roster, this might not be the top priority for the program but recruiting should always be near the forefront of the mind.

Looking ahead to the future of the program, Coach Miller is already active in the 2020 class. Perhaps most notably, shooting guard Anthony Leal (No. 80) seems to be a heavy lean to IU and the program recently extended a scholarship offer. Crystal Ball predictons have started to flow in the direction of the Hoosiers with regards to Leal and that could be a monster early addition to the class. They have also been rumored to be interested in several other top-100 talents that could impact the future of the program.

…But the present matters too

It is, though, very important to mention that the coaching staff might not be done with the 2019 class yet. Even though they have already landed Jackson-Davis and Franklin (as well as grad transfer Joey Brunk) this offseason, the coaching staff is still eager to add another highly-regarded recruit. At this point in time, it seems as though the clear top targets are Lester Quinones (No. 62) and Trendon Watford (No. 26). Recent trends seem to indicate that the Hoosiers are trending in the right direction with regards to Quinones, although a commitment is not a sure thing by any stretch, and he would be a major addition to the backcourt.

Prioritizing landing one of these 2019 prospects for immediate help this season makes total sense.
