Nebraska Basketball: Breaking down Cornhuskers 2019 roster additons
By Bryan Mauro
Current Targets for Nebraska this offseason
These are players that have taken a visit to Nebraska and are only focused on the 2019 class
Joel Ntambwe – Sophomore
Ntambwe is a UNLV transfer who took a visit to Nebraska during their football spring game. After the visit Ntambwe declared for the NBA draft, with the possibility of coming back to college. The 6’9” stretch four has yet to make a decision on his future. He has left it open to return to UNLV or transfer to Nebraska. The native of the Congo averaged 12 points per game and shot just under 40% from three in his one season at UNLV.
Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua – Sophomore
Another UNLV transfer who did not have near the numbers of his teammate. The 6’8” native of Cameroon is raw and would benefit a great deal for the redshirt year. Tchamwa Tchatchoua only played 13 minutes a contest so it remains to be seen what numbers he can put up with a greater share of the minutes. The former UNLV player is not a shooter and more of a force inside. The big man took a visit to Nebraska during the football spring game
Jayce Johnson – Senior
Johnson is a graduate transfer from Utah. While at Utah, the 7’0” big man averaged 8 points and 8 rebounds per game. Nebraska has such a need for frontcourt players that they cannot be choosy, and the senior would come in and play right away for Nebraska. The former Ute took a visit to Nebraska last weekend and is expected to make his decision after his current visit to Marquette ends. Nebraska needs a big man desperately if they want to compete in the Big Ten this season.
Kevin Cross – Freshman
Cross is an incoming freshman in the 2019 class out of Arkansas. The 6’9” forward has a big body, and much like Johnson would fill a need for Nebraska. Cross who took an unofficial visit to Southern Mississippi when Doc Sadler was the head coach, followed him to Nebraska. Cross took a visit to Nebraska last weekend and holds offers from Oklahoma State and is receiving heavy interest from TCU. His last year of high school he averaged 15 points per game to go along with seven rebounds. Cross is currently on a visit to Oklahoma State and will commit sometime after that.
Maurice Calloo – Sophomore
Calloo averaged 2.5 points and 1.6 rebounds per game in just over 10 minutes per game last season. He was dismissed from Oklahoma State in January after a vandalism incident. The former Oak Hill Academy product took a visit to Lincoln during the football spring game. That is his only official visit to date and his recruitment has been quiet since then.
Yvan Ouedraogo – Freshman
The French big man has tremendous potential and he just turned 17 in March. Wherever he commits it is likely that he will redshirt to not only get bigger but get older. The 6’8” big man is mobile and undersized. He has good hands in the post and touch with both hands. The French big man is raw and does not have great shooting touch, but his hustle and motor and his quickness allow him to make up for some of his deficiencies. Ouedraogo took a visit to Lincoln last weekend and immediately placed them in his top 3.
Players such as KJ Lawson from Kansas, LJ Figueroa from St. John’s, Jahvon Quinerly from Villanova, and Jemarl Baker from Kentucky have all been contacted by Nebraska. The staff is working on setting up visits for these players. One thing that is evident, Nebraska under Coach Hoiberg is attracting a different type of athlete, and they are entering uncharted territory for the basketball program. Fans should be very excited.
