Duke Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing early offers to 2020 prospects
Jalen Johnson – Milwaukee, WI
SF | 6-foot-8 | 215 lbs | No. 3 overall
One of the best all-around players in the class, Jalen Johnson is a superstar in the making. While standing at 6-foot-8, Johnson has the ability to be the primary playmaker on the offensive end while also being able to defend all positions defensively. He can score at a high rate from just about anywhere on the court and his court vision is second-to-none in the class as a point forward. Johnson is truly a do-it-all forward and it is easy to see why he is ranked in the top-3 of the 2020 class.
While competing for Phenom University at EYBL Atlanta, Johnson showcased his all-around abilities. He averaged 16.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game across the three contests that have box scores. Of the contests that I watched, he influenced the floor in many different ways and was seemingly always active on both ends. It is hard to argue with his performances as some of the best in the opening weekend.
With regards to his recruitment, Johnson has already narrowed his list to four: Arizona, Wisconsin, Duke, and Kentucky. Many view Duke as one of the favorites in the recruitment at this point in time and he would be a tremendous addition. Even for a dominant recruiting program like Duke, landing a top-5 player is tremendous. He could easily be the top priority as a potential future member of #TheBrotherhood.
That concludes this look at Duke’s early offers to 2020 recruits. With more live periods approaching, you can be sure that these will not be the only ones on this list. Also, with Roach already committed, is Coach K on his way to yet another top-5 class in the country? It is safe to assume that the answer is “yes.”
