ACC Basketball: 5 most intriguing players entering 2019 NBA Draft
Kyle Guy – Virginia Cavaliers
Is Kyle Guy the Donte DiVincenzo of the 2019 NBA Draft class? Both were underreported players for highly ranked teams during their final seasons of college play. They both are categorized as “3 and D” players, meaning their best attributes are shooting three-pointers and strong defensive play. And lastly, Guy and Divincenzo both had breakout performances when it mattered most for their respective teams, Virginia and Villanova in the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to the most recent college basketball season, I believe the University of Virginia coaching staff and Kyle Guy believed that he would be returning to Virginia for his senior season in the fall of 2019. However, it appears that Guy has received some very positive feedback from NBA organizations, many considering him to be a first-round pick in the upcoming draft.
With that reassurance, it makes sense that Guy would enter his name in the draft and receive at least some guaranteed money that comes with being a first-round pick. DiVincenzo was drafted 17th overall in last year’s draft by the Milwaukee Bucks and I believe that was a stretch. Yet, recency bias is a real thing and I believe with Guy’s play in the NCAA Tournament he can ride the wave of positive evaluations to a draft position as DiVincenzo last year, regardless of if it is deserved.
