Mfiondu Kabengele – Florida State Seminoles

Mfiondu Kabengele is probably best known for being the nephew of Dikembe Mutombo. The sophomore out of Florida State though should start o be recognized and discussed on his own merit. Kabengele was a key player for the Seminoles this season helping them reach a Sweet Sixteen, where the team, unfortunately, fell short to the West Region’s first seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs.

Kabengele led the Seminoles in points and blocks while also being second on the team in rebounding. He is a utility player, whose game definitely has a place in today’s NBA game. The question of course is, where will he be drafted? Due to his youth and impressive growth this season, he will need some developmental time for whichever team drafts him.

Playing behind a strong center and well-respected coach will be crucial if Kabengele is to reach his potential at the next level. I envision a team like the San Antonio Spurs with LaMarcus Aldridge and Gregg Popovich being an ideal fit for him. Another potential option could be the Detroit Pistons with Andre Drummond and Dwayne Casey running the show. Expect to see Kabengele as a late first or early second round pick in the upcoming NBA draft.
