Patrick Beilein

Did you ever ask your Dad if you wanted to take over the family business? This is kind of like that, except the chances of it happening are small.

Patrick Beilein is only 36, and JUST took his first D1 coaching job. He will be the coach of the Niagara Purple Eagles for the next few seasons. The parallels are there, though. Young Beilein played for his Dad at West Virginia from 2002-06.

John Beilein’s second head coaching job was at Le Moyne College. Patrick Beilein’s second head coaching job was at, wait for it, Le Moyne College. Pat Beilein will be a heck of a coach one day, but he is not quite ready for a job of this caliber yet, but if the Wolverines want to keep the tradition going, they will take a flyer (ha, get it? Flyer…Eagles – Okay) and make this hire.

At Le Moyne, Patrick went 77-41, making three consecutive Division II tournaments, and one Elite Eight.

We know he’ll be able to recruit, having learned from some pretty good recruiters himself, and the philosophy shouldn’t change. With the players already in place for the system, this may be worth taking a risk. Not to mention, Michigan can probably pay him in one day what Niagara is paying him in a year.
