NBA Draft: Top 25 one-and-done prospects of all-time
It’s never easy being a big man in the game of college basketball these days, but 6-foot-10 center Andre Drummond has stood the test of time. His career began with the UConn Huskies during the 2011-12 season but since then, he’s managed to find his way as one of the top rebounders in the NBA.
Drummond emerged as the Huskies paint protector during the Jim Calhoun era, producing 10.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per contest through 34 appearances in 2011-12. The All-Freshmen Big East performer ranked second in the conference in blocks (92) and third in blocks per game before it was all said and done.
The Huskies made the 2012 NCAA Tournament, but a loss in the first round dashed hopes of a deep run. Drummond would still go on to be drafted ninth overall in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons, where he continues to be their enforcer in the paint.
Drummond has racked up over 100 blocks during five of his seven seasons with the Pistons and currently ranks fifth all-time in franchise history in the category with 845. He’s led the league in total rebounds for the past four seasons and rebounds per game in three of his seven career seasons so far with the Pistons.
This past season, he snagged 15.6 rebounds per contest. He remains a staple in the paint and should for seasons to come, though it remains to be seen if he’ll finish his career in Detroit.
