NBA Draft: Top 25 one-and-done prospects of all-time
Karl-Anthony Towns is a seven-footer with tremendous all-around ability on the hardwood and it’s beginning to show for him as a pro. During his college career, he showed off his potential with the Kentucky Wildcats, as they made it all the way to the Final Four in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
Towns made his debut during the 2014-15 season and was a member of one of John Calipari’s best team as they went 38-1 overall and 18-0 in the SEC. Alongside fellow freshmen Trey Lyles and Devin Booker, Towns averaged 10.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.1 assists per game in the frontcourt.
He earned SEC Rookie of the Year honors, as well as All-SEC First Team honors entering March, where he played some of his best basketball. To clinch a spot in the Final Four, he put up a career-high 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting for the Wildcats against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. They fell to the Wisconsin Badgers 71-64 in the Final Four.
Towns was taken first overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2015 NBA Draft. He won the 2015-16 NBA Rookie of the Year award after producing 18.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 blocks per game.
During the 2017-18 season, he earned All-NBA Third Team honors while putting up 21.3 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.4 blocks per game. He also made his first NBA All-Star appearance and playoff appearance the same year.
With two NBA All-Star appearances in a row and counting go along with consecutive seasons shooting over 40 percent from behind the arc, look for Towns’ legacy to continue to grow in the NBA.
