NBA Draft: Top 25 one-and-done prospects of all-time
Surprise, surprise, another Kentucky Wildcats player is on the list. Jamal Murray was only a shooting guard when he entered the college basketball scene, but since making the jump to the league, he’s turned into something more for the Denver Nuggets.
Murray put up 20.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game for the Wildcats during his lone season in 2015-16. He shot 40.8 percent from 3-point land on 3.1 makes per contest, ranking third in the SEC in percentage and first in total 3-pointers made (113).
His 244 total field goals made also led the conference and even though he didn’t win the SEC Rookie of the Year award, he earned First-Team All-SEC honors for his performance, which didn’t go unnoticed. In the three games he scored over 30 points, he made a combined 21-of-29 (72.4 percent) field goals from 3-point range, showing off his ability at the shooting guard position.
When he entered his name into the draft, he was taken seventh overall in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets. As a rookie, he appeared in all 82 games, though mostly off the bench. A move to the point guard position has since elevated his game.
Murray averaged 16.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.0 steals per game during the 2017-18 season. This past season, he put up 18.2 points, 4.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game, as the Nuggets made a deep run in the NBA Playoffs. They lost to the Portland Trail Blazers in the end, but with Murray leading the way, they’ll surely be back.
