Zaire Wade

Class of 2020 – Unranked

Although not currently ranked, many expect that Dwyane Wade’s son will be near the top of Coach Howard’s list moving forward. Zaire Wade has already been offered by several high-major programs but the relationship between his father and Michigan’s new coach could go a long way. Coach Howard not only played alongside the elder Wade with the Miami Heat but also served as an assistant coach for a few years. Wade/Howard won two championships together (oh, and I guess some guy named LeBron James was also on that team).

An elite scorer with the ability to fill up the basket at all three levels, Wade is expected to garner plenty of recruiting interest over the next few months. He currently stands at 6-foot-2 and has generated plenty of buzz due to his play on the court and not just the name on his jersey. Wade is currently playing for E1T1 United (FL) on the EYBL circuit and is averaging 7.7 points (.525/.200/.929), 2.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game across seven recorded contests.

It is also possible that a commitment from Wade could lead to some interesting developments in Bronny James’ extremely early recruitment (he is a 2023 prospect). Could two sons of NBA superstars team both end up in Ann Arbor? Maybe.

On the whole, I think that Juwan Howard is going to be a very solid head coach for Michigan basketball. Following in the footsteps of Coach Beilein is going to be nearly impossible but he should experience plenty of wins on the recruiting trail and retaining the current assistants could also play a major role in maintaining the winning culture. Once he starts to gain some confidence as a head coach, the Wolverines could be very dangerous.
