A big-time superstar during his time at Iowa State, Marcus Fizer was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft.

Fizer never fit in with the Bulls from the beginning, as Elton Brand was picked No. 1 overall by the Bulls just one year prior.

Considering that both Brand and Fizer played the same position, Fizer was not thrown into a fair situation in Chicago. In his three years in Chicago, Fizer never started more than 20 games and never averaged more than 12 points per game.

Fizer’s career was derailed with a torn ACL in 2003, which led to him being selected in the expansion draft by the then-Charlotte Bobcats. Fizer did not make the Bobcats’ final roster, eventually finding his way to the D-League.

Fizer would find his footing in the D-League, where he was named the 2005-06 MVP.

After that, Fizer wouldn’t play longer in the United States, taking his talents to Israel and Taiwan among other places.

Fizer’s career fizzled out rather quickly, especially considering that he never really got an opportunity to make the same impact that he did in Ames.

If Fizer were drafted to another team in a different scenario, maybe his career would look a bit different? But for now, he’s one of the bigger “what if’s” in recent draft memory.
