Purdue Basketball: Breaking down the 2019 recruiting class
Isaiah Thompson – Zionsville, IN
PG | 6-foot-0 | 165 lbs | No. 200 overall
The brother of former Purdue starter P.J. Thompson, this incoming recruit represents a solid point guard option for the future of the program. Although not the most explosive athlete or best defender, Isaiah Thompson is about as steady as they come. He does not necessarily have an “elite skill” but he pretty much does everything relatively well, including creating for others and knocking down the 3-point shot.
Thompson sees the floor quite well and does a nice job picking spots for himself to score. It seems as though scoring will be his top skill at the college level as he brings a much different set of skills compared to his playmaking brother. On the whole, Thompson looks like he will be a solid player for the Boilermakers throughout his career with the potential to start plenty of games.
Even though he does not boast a ton of size, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him play plenty of minutes at the shooting guard position in his time with the Boilermakers. As a member of the Indy Heat roster, Thompson played in five games at Peach Jam last summer. In those contests, he averaged 14.4 points (.532/464/.818), 2.6 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.
