NBA Draft 2019: Top 25 undrafted players since 2000
Coming over from Australia, there was no telling what kind of player Joe Ingles would become. Neither did the Los Angeles Clippers, who waived him less than a year into his NBA career. But the Utah Jazz took a chance on him, one that has benefitted them ever since.
A prototypical “3 and D” player, Ingles’ role has grown each year with Utah, now as a full-time starter. And unlike most players who rest several games each year, he plays just about all them. A career 41 percent 3-point shooter, the 6-foot-8 forward couldn’t be left alone, while also being one of the best passing forwards in the country.
Ingles is also known as one of the more testy players in the league, constantly getting into it with opposing players. It sometimes gets into their heads, but never his it seems. The lefty also can hit a clutch shot every so often and is the second-most consistent offensive option behind Donovan Mitchell on the Jazz.
Ingles continues to improve his all-around game, coming off a career-high 12.1 points and 5.7 assists per game, becoming more and more of a legit facilitator for the team. Combine that with his durability and overall efficiency and he’s one of the best current “glue guys” in the NBA.
He’s been awarded by the franchise as well, playing on a four-year, $52 million deal. There’s a very good chance that Ingles will retire as a member of the Jazz when it’s all said and done, a pretty a rare feat for an undrafted player to do – staying with one team.
Career stats (406 games): 8.0 points, 3.4 assists, 3.1 rebounds per game
