NBA Draft 2019: Options for Philadelphia 76ers to target throughout draft
Grant Williams – Tennessee
Last but not least, I will end with a player that is much more well-known than Dylan Windler and Justin Wright-Foreman. I must preface this by saying that I do not expect Grant Williams to be available at the 24th selection, yet the possibility could arise if the front end of the draft becomes guard heavy.
The Volunteers basketball team had the opposite of a story book ending. Coach Rick Barnes helped the team achieve the highest national ranking in program history during the regular season and was widely discussed as a potential NCAA Coach of the Year candidate. Rick Barnes impressive coaching this past year even allowed him to receive an offer to be the new head coach of the UCLA Bruins.
The on court leader though was undoubtedly Grant Williams He led the Volunteers in points and rebounds this season and was the on court assistant coach to Barnes. Averaging 19 points and 8 rebounds per game on 57% field goal percentage this season has Williams’ draft stock rising with each passing week.
In addition, Williams is praised for his off the court behavior and attitude as well as being a good teammate. Those are the kind of intangibles that NBA general managers use as deciding factors when players have similar skills and team fits. If Williams is available at the 24th pick, it would be a no brainer for the 76ers to bring him to the City of Brotherly Love.
