2019 NBA Draft Big Board: Top 50 player rankings, scouting reports
45. Jalen McDaniels, San Diego State
21 years old | Forward | 6-foot-9.75 | 191.6 lbs
Stats (SO): 15.9 ppg (.466/.320/.732), 8.3 rpg, 2.1 apg
Jalen McDaniels is an interesting draft prospect. Depending on the mock draft that you favor, it is possible that McDaniels goes as high as the first round or slips as far as outside of the draft entirely. With regards to his physique, McDaniels stands at nearly 6-foot-10 and boasts plenty of athleticism, making him a tantalizing prospect. McDaniels plays with a tremendous amount of effort and he uses his athleticism well to get to the basket offensively and block shots on the other end. He will need to add some bulk to his frame before taking the next step in his career but the ceiling is high. He could be a switchable defender with mismatch potential on the offensive end.
44. Terence Davis, Ole Miss
22 years old | Guard | 6-foot-4.5 | 192.4 lbs
Stats (SR): 15.2 ppg (.444/.371/.772), 5.8 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.6 spg
Although Terence Davis is one of the oldest players on this Big Board, I believe that he is definitely worth a second-round pick. With a great motor, high-level shot-making, and defensive switchability, it is easy to see where the appeal is. As one of the primary leaders of the Ole Miss offense during this past season, he helped guide the team to a surprisingly successful season. When necessary, Davis has the ability to play any position from 1-through-3 and that versatility makes him intriguing. With that said, though, he is not a tremendous shot-creator and this limits his overall ceiling. He is worth a pick, though, as a switchable 3-and-D combo guard.
43. Darius Bazley, USA
18 years old | Forward | 6-foot-9 | 208.4 lbs
Stats: Did not play in college or internationally.
Darius Bazley is a bit of an unknown prospect heading into this draft. Rated as one of the top players in the 2018 recruiting class, Bazley had committed to Syracuse before electing to instead work as an intern with New Balance for the year. This is certainly an interesting path but now is the time for him to take the professional step with his basketball career. On the court, Bazley represents a future power forward at the NBA level with plenty of size and a tantalizing skill set on both ends of the floor. Due to the fact that he did not play in college or internationally, though, it is hard to say exactly where he will land in the draft – his individual team workouts will play a major role in where he is selected.
42. Shamorie Ponds, St. John’s
20 years old | Guard | 6-foot-0.5 | 180.0 lbs
Stats (JR): 19.7 ppg (.453/.353/.836), 4.1 rpg, 5.1 apg, 2.6 spg
One of the top guards in the Big East over the past few seasons, Shamorie Ponds is a polished point guard prospect with two-way potential. On the offensive end of the floor, his skill has been on full display over the past few seasons. He is a shifty guard with the ability to attack the basket and finish or create for himself on the perimeter. His scoring is well-documented. In addition, he does a nice job reading defenses and finding the open man without making too many mistakes. Defensively, he is not necessarily known as a “stopper” but he is extremely opportunistic. There are not many guards in the class better at reading passing lanes and creating turnovers off the ball.
41. Luka Samanic, International
19 years old | Forward | 6-foot-11 | 227.2 lbs
Stretch bigs are increasing in prevalence in the modern age of the NBA and Luka Samanic fits the bill. An impressive perimeter threat at 6-foot-11, Samanic seems like a great fit on the offensive end of the floor, especially when you consider that he has worked to add some muscle mass in the past couple of years. At 19-year-old, he has plenty of time to develop his game and the starting point is already relatively solid. He runs the floor extremely well for his size and has shown the ability to finish above the rim as well. With this said, he is not a tremendous post finisher and is not always the most willing passer. He has shown flashes on the defensive end of the floor but a below-average wingspan and lack of consistency set him back overall.
