Expectations for Toppin in 2019-20

Flyer fans are one of the more passionate fan bases in the sport. They know the sport well and they pack Dayton Arena for every home game. The better the team, the louder the arena gets. One could understand the excitement around the Dayton program right now. The team appears poised to make it back to the NCAA tournament and the new era under Coach Grant is going to have their signature season.

Toppin is hoping to use the valuable feedback he received as part of the draft process to make himself a better player. Flyer fans already know the Freshman can dunk and finish around the rim. He set the Dayton record for dunks this past season with 83. The 83 dunks to go along with his tremendous shooting percentage earned him the Atlantic 10 freshman of the year and first team all-conference honors. He is the first freshman in Dayton history to earn the freshman of the year.

Toppin is back and looking for many more awards. If everything goes as planned this is likely to be the last season for Toppin in Dayton. As mentioned, he has the potential to earn the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year. The freshman averaged 6.0 rebounds and almost a block per game last season.

This season, look for those numbers to increase, the forward is not having to fight for his spot on the floor and he is more acclimated to the college game. Toppin has the most value on the offensive end and that isn’t going to change even if he does place more focus on the defensive end of the floor.
