Undrafted Players
A number of quality mid-major players also went undrafted on Thursday night, but several had already signed with a team in the hours following the draft.
The Grizzlies extended their mid-major tour by signing all-around Purdue-Fort Wayne guard Jon Konchar, one of the most underrated players in the country last season.
Lipscomb sharpshooter Garrison Mathews signed a two-way deal with the Washington Wizards. UNC Wilmington’s double-double machine Devontae Cacok signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. Scoring wizard Chris Clemons signed with the Houston Rockets.
Other top mid-major undrafted prospects include: South Dakota State’s Mike Daum, Wofford’s Fletcher Magee and Cameron Jackson, Buffalo’s CJ Massinburg and Nick Perkins, Nevada’s Caleb Martin, Gonzaga’s Josh Perkins, and Furman’s Matt Rafferty among many others.
With only two rounds in the draft, there’s a lot of talent floating around out there. These guys may not seem important at first glance, but look at Fred VanVleet. He went undrafted after putting together a stellar four-year career as a mid-major star at Wichita State. He was one of the key members of the Toronto Raptors’ NBA title-winning squad. All it takes is the right combination of player, team, and opportunity for any of these players to make their mark.
