NBA Draft 2019: 10 most intriguing undrafted free agent prospects
By Sam Jarrett
Louis King, SF, Oregon
A former five-star recruit, Louis King was the second-leading scorer on an Oregon team that made it to the Sweet Sixteen this past year. But aside from averaging 13.5 points per game, he didn’t do much for his draft stock, which fell over the course of the season to the point where he ultimately went undrafted.
King is a very raw forward; he shot just 57.8% at the rim, a number you’d like to see higher for a player who stands at 6’8, and he totaled 40 assists to 64 turnovers in his lone season with the Ducks. However, he was solid on the defensive end, and his 7’0.25 wingspan indicates that he could get even better on that end.
His most intriguing skill at this point, though, is his 3-point shooting. King knocked down 3-pointers 38.6% clip this past season on 153 attempts. According to The Stepien’s shot chart, he went 33-for-87 on shots from NBA three-point range, which would make him slightly above average as a shooter at the next level.
The vast majority of his makes from NBA range were assisted, but that’s okay; spot-up shooters have a place in NBA rotations, as is evidenced by the fact that Cam Johnson was selected at number 11 overall. That’s all that King is right now, but he has obvious talent and the chance to develop into a lot more.
If King can become more consistent inside of the three-point line and become at least serviceable as a playmaker, he can provide two-way value as a rotation player for an NBA squad.
King was ranked 47th on Lukas Harkins’ final Big Board.
