Yovel Zoosman, SF, Israel

This year’s international class was fairly weak in comparison to recent – and future – years, but the 6’7 Yovel Zoosman was considered a first-round prospect by many people. He ended up falling out of the draft entirely, but he can still find his way into an NBA rotation. Zoosman is a high IQ player and has a 7’1 wingspan, both of which help to compensate for his lack of athleticism. He’s capable enough as a shooter and defender but doesn’t excel in those areas.

His main selling point is his ability as a point-forward. Zoosman is a good ball handler for his size and has great vision as a passer, meaning that he has the potential to operate as a secondary or tertiary ball handler in an offense. This gives him a fair amount of upside as a valuable rotation player.

One of the concerns with Zoosman, and perhaps the reason why he wasn’t drafted, is his lack of assertiveness. He won the U20 MVP for Israel last Summer, but played a very low-usage role for Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv where he didn’t do much to prove himself as a scorer, and at times didn’t seem like he was trying to.

He did do a lot of the little things for that team, and that’s likely what he would do for an NBA team too, as he may struggle to get to the rim against NBA athleticism. Zoosman does everything you can ask for at a serviceable level, and that’s enough to make him a very intriguing undrafted piece for a team.
