NBA Draft 2019: Predicting best first round picks 5 years from now
By Trenton Corn
Cam Reddish
If Cam Reddish goes to any other school last year he’s a top five pick.
Reddish was the 2nd ranked player coming out of high school, and really couldn’t get in a groove with Duke’s three-headed monster of Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett and himself. There were just too many mouths to feed, as Reddish ended up playing third fiddle to the number one and number three picks in this years draft.
Reddish is a bit more raw than his Duke teammates, but offers upside quite similar, and holds great value where the Atlanta Hawks picked him at pick 10.
Reddish offers Paul George esque upside with his 6’9 (7’1 wingspan) 215 pound frame. He can flat out just score the rock. He offers a smooth shooting stroke to be able to knock down shots from deep, and can handle the ball well for his size, and use his athleticism to get to the rim. Reddish’s 1.6 steals per game also shows signs he can be like PG-13 defensively as well.
If Cam Reddish went to lets say UCLA, he would’ve been put in a situation to showcase his talents and intangibles even more, at Duke he was more spot up shooter, rather than running his main role of “Give me the ball and get out of my way”.
I said before I started listing these players that a players situation on top of their skill level and potential would be the deciding factor on who appears on this list. Reddish has all three. He is a uber talented player, with top three player in this draft upside.
His situation he’s in is phenomenal as well.
With taking Deandre Hunter pick 4, and Cam Reddish pick 10 the Atlanta Hawks are starting to build a pretty strong nucleus of players with Trae Young, Kevin Huerter, and John Collins along with the two names I listed above.
Lets break this down.
Trae Young has Steph Curry potential.
Deandre Hunter has Kawhi Leonard potential.
And Cam Reddish has Paul George potential.
That’s a lethal core three of players if they pan out, along with the sharp shooting Huerter, and the 19.5 points per game and 9.8 rebounds a game of John Collins.
I think Cam Reddish is better than what he showed us last season at Duke, and got caught in a logjam of talent. He is in the perfect situation to prove us wrong, and has the upside available for me to be comfortable crowning him as one of the five best players taken in the first round of this draft in the next five years.
