Big Ten Basketball: Analyzing top 15 players from 2019 recruiting class
By Joey Loose
15. Tre Williams (Minnesota – SG)
The native of Mount Pleasant, Utah has stood out for his versatility and the 6’5 forward/guard will take his talents to Big Ten Basketball. He was recruited hard by the Golden Gophers, committing last year to play for Richard Pitino.
Williams possesses the ability to play both the 2 and the 3 because of his size and versatility. He’s an athletic guard who could also develop into an elite defensive stopper. He’s shown flashes of brilliance on both sides of the ball and will rack up steals and rebounding numbers. He’ll need to build some muscle on his frame, especially since he has the ability to drive and score with ease with both hands. His quick release and solid stroke make him a nice prospect who can develop into a solid starter with added strength.
There’s a bit of anxious energy for Pitino and the Golden Gophers, but Williams could play a role on a team that is full of talented sophomores. Williams will have time to develop his game, but could fight for key minutes off the bench, especially considering his versatility. He’s a solid get for the Golden Gophers, though he may be undersized to see consistent minutes at forward.
