NBA Draft 2019: Analyzing under the radar mid-major basketball selections
By Zac Voynow
Justin Wright-Foreman, Hofstra
Justin Wright-Foreman was drafted 53rd overall by the Utah Jazz. Wright-Foreman will be making the move to from the CAA to the Utah Jazz with Jarrell Brantley.
Justin Wright-Foreman was my favorite mid-major player all season long, so seeing him selected in the NBA draft was really exciting for me. Wright-Foreman is a fantastic scorer. He’s a score first combo guard, who’s listed at 6’2″, 190-lbs. He was second in the nation last season in scoring, as he averaged 27.1 points per game. Wright-Foreman has a sweet left-handed jump shot with limitless range beyond the arch. He has a fifth gear in transition that makes him almost impossible to contain in the open floor. Wright-Foreman also has an extremely quick first step, that helps him blow by his primary defender time and time again. He’s a do-it-all scorer who’s offensive game is already NBA ready.
Wright-Foreman is known for his scoring–and for good reason. He broke David Robinson’s record for most points scored in a single season by a CAA player. He shot over 50% from the field, and over 40% from deep, while averaging over 27 points per game as a guard. He’s a staggering scorer, but that’s not all he can do. Wright-Foreman is a very underrated defender.
The elite scorer strong and sturdy for his frame, and has nice footwork. He does a good job containing the opposition he’s defending. He also has a very high IQ, and is a much better passer than his stats would have you believe. Two years ago he was forced into the primary scoring role at Hofstra, which altered his style of play.
