Matthew Smith – Charlotte, N.C.

F | 6 – Foot – 6 | 215lb | Unranked

Athletic and long, Matthew Smith is a forward that the Racers are going to love having once he has adjusted to the college game. He shoots the ball from deep, stretches the defense, and battles for rebounds. He plays aggressively, and truthfully isn’t a star/best guy on the team, type player. That doesn’t mean that Murray State isn’t glad to have him.

The game is moving more and more towards a positionless game. At the mid-major level that is harder to find there than it is at a Duke or Kentucky, but Smith may bring a little of that. He could ideally play the two down to the five position, and he might get some playing time at all of those positions in his time as a Racer.

His shot-making ability allows him to play anywhere on the perimeter either as a shooting guard, small forward, or stretch-four. His athleticism is going to allow him to rebound against bigger bodies and be able to defend smaller guards who may blow by a less athletic guy at his size. He also played alongside Chico Carter Jr for Team Charlotte on the Under Armour circuit.
