NCAA Basketball Recruiting: 3-star recruits from 2019 class that will excel
SF Seth Lundy – Penn State Nittany Lions
It was the best recruiting pickup for Penn State in this class, beating out Louisville, Marquette and Virginia Tech to land Seth Lundy. He’s a versatile 6’6 forward who has the ability to play both forward positions and projects to being a sound defender in college. He averaged around 17 ppg and 7.0 rpg as a senior in high school.
It’ll be interesting to see how he plays at Penn State given that he’s not a great shooter to play from the wing but doesn’t have a true post game to play inside. He’s the kind of player who you just give the ball to and let him operate. And with switching and floor spacing more important than ever, those categorized as “tweeners” aren’t as affected anymore.
That works for both Lundy and Penn State, who could easily slide him at the power forward position since Josh Reaves has graduated. Forwards Mike Watkins and All-Big Ten performer Lamar Stevens will be back for their senior years and will provide the bulk of the team’s offense next season. But they’ll still need Lundy on the defensive end and to provide depth as well on the frontline. This is a case of a player who’ll have a particular role next season and have it change completely in the following. If the guards can step up and provide balance, don’t be surprised if the team makes a push for an 2020 NCAA Tournament bid.
